Russell Kirmayer

Hi, I'm Russell

I am currently an engineering tech lead at Forward, on a mission to provide the worlds best healthcare.  My team is responsible for keeping our technology secure and always running and providing services to internal teams to accelerate product development.  We manage a variety of cloud and data infrastructure, internal systems, and collaborate with other teams to build extensible libraries and frameworks to help the company scale and grow.  I work closely to prioritize and align projects, help manage and guide technical direction, and develop measurable indicators (SLOs, KPIs) with internal business stakeholders.

Previously, I was the founding CTO of DevFlight (YC W19), a security automation startup.  I've worked at multiple startups prior, building everything from personal robots and advanced 3D printers.  I enjoy working on new market technologies, primarily developing large scale applications and supporting infrastructure.

Experience

Engineering Team Lead

2021 - Present

I work primarily on our backend systems and infrastructure.  My primary responsibilities are to ensure successful execution of projects by aligning with product stakeholders, ensuring viable technical execution plan, and providing context to teammates to ensure effective and timely project execution.  I will also happily  I work with the team manager and business stakeholders to develop and frequently communicate team KPIs and system indicators to inform prioritization and roadmap development.

Founding CTO

We set out to create a next-generation security tool to automate attacks against organizations.  I lead engineering and have focused on designing and developing the product.

Senior Software Engineer

I helped lead engineering efforts to develop an IoT-based machine learning presence at manufacturing facilities.  My team developed the first generation edge computing system to bring manufacturing analytics to the factory floor for greater performance.

Platform Software Engineer

Jibo

2015-2018

I worked on the core robotic operating system of the Jibo robot, focusing on system telemetry and performance monitoring capabilities.  I spent time overseas helping build out the testing infrastructure and camera calibration systems at the factory building the robot.

R&D Software Engineering Intern

I applied analytical physics techniques to understand various deformation and damaging forces on 3D-printed parts, and tuned the relevant algorithms to minimize part damage and speed print time.
